NODE 07 - AL MA’AREF PLAZA

DOHA - QATAR

Architect's Vision

The concept was created from an elliptical shape that was
placed in the center of the Node with the sculpture in mind,
making sure the design will allow the artwork to be well
exhibited.
The distribution of landscaping levels as per the nature of
the existing surrounding streets was kept on the highest
side where the Sikka was naturally elevated from the
plaza to ramp up the slope height providing a better view
of the full plot. The walkways leading to the plaza were
sloped in a well-studied way to reach easily for elderly
and disabled.

The outer walkways are leveled differently with the street
curb level to keep the walking in action with marginal
heights sloping up making the use of it easier than just
regular walkways.

The kid’s in this Node have another way of looking at the
fun through learning about the ancient history by studying
the shapes of the sculptures as games that are made-well
to reflect the carving and structuring of Al Jassasiya items
into fun large units in resemblance of the carving on rocks
found in Jabal Al Jassasiya in its cultural quality and
historical symbols. The Plaza also has soft-scape designed
lines with the intention to let visitors use and enjoy the
shades of the trees that are distributed with the selections
of the blooming colors that cycle in variable sequence to
naturally rotate the colors for most of the calendar year.

The shrubs choices also have the same variable cycle for
better blooming to keep the colors flowing around for the
longest period of months during the year. The Grass
mixture with the lower shrubs’ plants, flowers, and other
greeneries are laid properly, maintaining the great Look &
feel level of the node making the blending of the
surrounding appears in its natural look. The Plaza benches
are well distributed to fit with the lines in a very unique way
that promotes comfort and fun.
